Another option that some say works for them (and I have used with a few games) is to limit your cpu to one core. If the game will run after being minimised ( Alt TAB ) then you can do this each time you play the game.
First Alt TAB out of the game then open Task Manager and locate the game in 'Processes' R / Click on the games process the click on 'Set Affinity' un-tick all the options except core 0 or possibly use core 0 & 1. Close Task Manager and go back to the game.
Another option is to set up a profile using Overclocking software ( I use AMD Overdrive ) so you don't have to setup for single/dual core every time you launch the game.
You can also go to System Configuration, but you have to reset the cpu and reboot before and after playing the game each time, so only use this method if the game will not run after doing an Alt TAB out of it, or you don't have OC software to create a profile in.
Click - Start Run > type msconfig and going to 'boot' > 'advanced options' , tick the checkbox and choose 1 cpu , reboot and load the game.
